Thursday 9th October 2025 - Autumn and winter birds of the region

Birley Moor Garden Centre 13.30-15:30

This is the third session of our hands-on Beginners ecology course.  Come and learn about the autumn and winter birds in Owlthorpe and the surrounding area.

Thursday 2nd October 2025 - Meadow mowing with our local council ranger, Nick Blood

Moorthorpe Gate Bottom Roundabout 12.30 - 15.00

Come and join us and our local ranger, Nick Blood, in some meadow mowing and clearance to improve the health and biodiversity of the grasslands of Owlthorpe Fields.

We'll be meeting at the bottom roundabout on Moorthorpe Gate at 12.30.  You can find the exact location here 

Tuesday 16th September 2025 - Sustainability training event

Birley Moor Garden Centre 10:30-12:30

Energy, sustainable food chains, transport, purchasing and making your premises or property fit for climate change. Want to learn more?

Thursday 11th September 2025 - Brief introduction to invertebrates

Birley Moor Garden Centre 13:30-15:30

This is the 2nd session of our hands-on Beginners ecology course and focusses on local invertebrates.  Join ecologist Julie Riley on this short course comprising of 1hr classroom and 1hr walk in the Owlthorpe locality.

Saturday 6th September 2025 - Bat Walk in Owlthorpe

Meet at Owlthorpe Surgery roundabout at 19.45

Come and join us on Saturday 6th September for a bat walk around Owlthorpe.  Led by Louisa from the South Yorkshire Bat Group, we will be bringing bat detectors for you to listen to the echo locations and learn about the different species of bat local to Owlthorpe.  We will be meeting at Owlthorpe surgery roundabout at 19.45pm.  All welcome, children must be accompanied by an adult.

Thursday 7th August 2025 - Beginners ecology training course

Birley Moor Garden Centre 1:30-3:30pm

Join us for a hands-on Beginners ecology training courses. Five other monthly sessions are planned covering various ecological aspects.

Wednesday 23rd July 2025 - Lunchtime Talk - Women's Land Army

Birley Moor Garden Centre 12:30-1:30pm

Local expert and historian, Richard Godley will deliver an illustrated talk about the Women's Land Army from WW1 to WW2.​

Wednesday 16th July 2025 - Oral history recording training session

Birley Moor Garden Centre 10:30-12:30pm
